Yeah, Mike has a good point here. To retrofit the Vega pump, you should go out and buy one. You'll see by looking at it that you will need to shorten the pickup tube by about 3/4" You will also need to use a plastic tie wrap to secure the pump to the tube instead of the original screw. The original electric leads can be removed from the original pump by filing off the rivet ends. Use them again to make the new connections. The original filter should be cleaned and if it is not damaged, reused. On my 535i, I used the Vega-style sock as a pickup instead of the BMW-style filter tray.
