I can't imagine that it would be "bad" for the car to drive it with the self leveling suspention disabled. You'll just be saggy out back! You'll have a nice view of your hood and the sky as you cruise up I-5!
Someone please correct me if I am wrong, but the e28 rear springs don't sound like they would work in the rear of the e23.
The PO on my 745 left the original springs in the rear, but had the self leveling removed, and the rear shocks were replaced with Bilsteins for a 735 application.
From other board members, I hear that when the self leveling works, it allows you to keep the plush ride and also have 4 person with luggage carrying capacity without sagging out.
I would like to restore the SLS on my car, if I could find a system in good shape.
Once you get back to the Bay, there are million place to pick up parts, my favorite being the local yards here in San Jose or giving Mark a call over at 02 parts in Hayward.
