Thanks for the input .. however remember current=amps not volts. To much current draw(amps) is what will fry the wiring etc. This can happing as resistance builds in connections or between the motor brushes and the strator(sp). If you have toasted the wiring something is pulling to much current and needs to be fixed.
Most of the advertised after maket fan draw about 10 amps. My fan draws about 14 but it is a heavier motor so not sure if this out of spec.
