The rear suspension in an 83 745 I am looking at has that self-levelling which the present owner says is shot. I want to pick the car up, drive it for about a week on L.A. freeways, then bring it home to San Francisco, about 400 miles total driving. From an econo standpoint I'd just as soon wait on attending to the rear suspension til I get home to my own shop...but felt I should ask if I can use the standard springs and shocks arrangement from a similar 733 or 735 (or even a 5-series of the same period) for safety purposes. Any potential pitfalls in converting over to regular rear suspension? I don't need to get new stuff, so what should I expect to pay for used stuff from a yard in the L.A. area? Finally, any suggestions for a yard to call this week to see if they have said stuff?
Thanks very much in advance for any help!
I promise to keep you all posted on this escapade!Regards,
Dale Phelps
I picked up everything for $200. Dont go to salvage yard they ask way to much. Watch the roundel, ebay, and this sit for someone selling. I didnt reuse the used shocks or accumulators but found them for about $160 and $70 if I remember right.
