The only thing the resistor can do if it fails is to reduce the amount of current flowing through it, not increase it.
>>>By definition a resistor impedes the flow of current (AMPS). A failed resistor (in series) will either produce an open circuit(no power, no amps, 12 v across it) or allow max current through, frying your wiring or the fuse.
The max current is a full 12v >>(12Amps??!?!?)going to the fan motor, which is what happens when you bypass the resistor. This is a typical modification when you go to R134 and want to get more air through the condensor to make the a/c colder.
>>> You will probably burn the wiring, the motor, the fuse, or the car

Frankly I was not surprised when the fuse melted, but I was VERY surprised when the relay wiring melted!
