I'm not sure I understand your reasoning on that.
The resistor is bypassed anyway when the hi temp switch is turned on.

Is it not true that the fan has two speeds controlled by two relays (fender side of the fuse block) which are activiated by two temp senders. The low speed relay power is run through the resistor. The high temp bypasses the resistor and supplies directly to the fan.

I'm sure someone will correct me if I have misunderstood the wiring schematics... 8:)
