The 732i would be a European Model with smaller bumpers front and rear and a higher compression motor with slightly more horsepower than the American model. I have owned both an '84 733 and a European '85 735 (The Euro 732 was also available in '85)

The euro cars are more powerful, but have some drawbacks, mostly in the poor quality of the work in configuring them to USA specs. The side marker lights were installed and the body would not be primed properly, the added door crash resistant bars can rust, etc. and the cars have much prettier but much less useful bumpers in a crash, ask me I know.

What is the Vin Number, as the Euro and USA Vins use different codes, what does the sticker on the trunk say?, and are your instruments in German or English?

Hey, newbie here. I just purchased my first BMW. A 99% restored 1982 733i. When I registered the VIN with BMW of North America it said that I had a 732i. The california registration and the previous owner says it's a 733i.

Is there a difference? and how could I tell, and does it really matter?

The car is in great shape and runs wonderfully, just wondering what's up with the model #.

Jim
