I had a similar deal on my 745i. You should pay attention to the previous problems that were fixed by the PO and if they were done competently. When you are dealing with cars this old, good repairs and maintenance records are worth a lot of money.

The story on mine goes like this: Shortly after the PO had driven back from LA with a clogged CAT... Needless to say, by the time he got back, the turbo and head gasket were blown. He had those repaired by a shop that toasted the HP22 by revving it in N.

He then took it to a competent shop and had the head redone, new turbo, cat, head and gasket set and of course a rebuilt tranny. That's a lot of work!

When the a/c went, he had had enough and put it up for sale. He had it online for $6500 which I though was fair, but not a "bargain."

I ony buy bargains!

So I waited.

After two weeks, I purchased my 84 745i for $3k.

The body is ok. No rust but some dings. It will need suspention and brake work. The a/c heater is goofed up and it has some cracked lenses.

All in all a good starting point for a "keeper" project since a lot of the "expensive" items have already been repaired by a good shop.
