e28 m5 steering wheel in '85 735i? (archive)

does anyone know what year the splines on the e23's steering column switched and what year steering wheels are compatible with other bmws? i have an e28 m5 steering wheel and wondered if it would fit on either the '85 or '86 735i's that i'm looking at purchasing. the wheel fit on my '84 euro car, but the fit wasn't very tight so i took it off. tia.
