whirring sound from rear (archive)

1982 733i..... I've got a little whirring sound when the car rides under a load or coasting. it's in the rear. Had the wheel bearings checked and there is no play in them. The tranny was rebuilt by a reputable shop 7 months ago. Also, there is an ever so slight "clunk" when the automatic downshifts. Could this all be part of the drive shaft assembly?
