thought I always left the window open or the door seals were letting road noise in. But it was a bad differential. First try changing the fluid.
As that did not cure the whine, I changed my differential this summer. The factory non LSD ratio for an automatic is 3.25. From a wrecking yard, I found a differential from an 1984 733 with a 3.46 ratio.
Didn't seem to affect the speedometer, but noticed that engine revs about 2-300 rpm higher
at freeway speeds. Now also has a bit quicker acceleration :) think I lost .4 mpg (lead foot?)
