Scottie the knock system uses two peizo electric mics located between cylinders 1&2 5&6. These sense vibrations associated with pinging. These are sent to the knock system which tells the motronic where to put the engine timing to halt the pinging.

The system also controls the wastegate solenoid valve. By varying the voltage to the solenoid it controls how much pressure from the bypass side tube of the turbo gets to the wastegate. This keeps it at a stable if not enemic 6 psi of boost.

This system also tells from manifold pressure how much boost is being applied. Too much boost from say removing the waste gate hose (about 10 psi) the system tells the Motronic that boost is to high and inturn the Motronic shuts off the fuel untill manifold pressure is back to atmospheric or lower allowing the fuel to turn back on. Hense the cutting out under heavy acceleration or High boost.

Hope this helps. If I miss s[elt anty words pleasew forget me. This thing has no spell check!!

Jon
