I recently had my odometer fixed by Rick at Overseas Speedometer here in Austin, TX. Did a great job and very quick. His phone number is (512) 329-8200. Highly recommend his work. Good luck.

My 79 733i has odometer problems,ie. only runs intermittently. nogood for mileage checks, etc. have
disassembled down to speedo cluster removed, and carefully
examined. if one removes the drive motor w/worm gear attached, you can spin the gears to check for binding or broken gears.so far so good. the primary gear that's run by the worm gear is the culprit,as I understand from archived posts. I have two of these units apart on the bench right
now. on one the gear is dust. the other is soft almost rubbery. This seems to be the problem. now I'm stuck with:
1) how to remove speedo needle so to remove face of speedo
to get at gearing to r/r bad gear. 2) where are these gears available? do I really have to send it away for the
"fix"? all insight appreciated. thanks,Griffith
