This is the different model styles similiar to gm/ford/chrysler "A" "B" body etc for the seven
series e23 is seven series 77-87(might not include the 87 models in euro model years) 1988-1994 is the e32 model(which might of started with 87 models in europe) and e38 is 1995 to 2001 forget what new 745/760 are called but it is on the side.It is the basic body style that remained basically the same for a number of years. If you happen to look at vehicles for sale on this site they have it broken down wrong. And just because it is an e23 it doesn't mean parts from any e23 will fit it but some will jim
