Why do you do that!?!? (archive)

I have read many posts regarding the fussy HVAC system on e23's. I am concerned that a habit of my wife's could cause problems. She obsessively turns the temp thumb wheel all the way down and the fan off when she parks the car. This shouldn't hurt except that I have to turn the system on each and every time I use the car after her. Now, what I'm actually concerned about is that she goes to the trouble to disengage ALL the control buttons. By design, this thing should always have one button depressed. Somehow she is pressing a button part way, releasing any other button so that all are up! WHY? It makes no sense to me to do this. I am concerned that this could be damaging to the control system which seems to be troublesome on some e23's anyway. I'm sure there are plenty of rational, intelegent females driving these cars but my........ well I'd better shut up now. Can anyone tell me if this could lead to a malfunction in the future?
