1-Heating and Air-conditionign system is TROUBLESOME.
2-They have a rough idle
3-You don't want to get an example with bad electronics.
5-Driveshaft U-joints go on these cars. the originals are not serviceable ( u feel a vibration when accelerating from a stop )
4- Everything can be fixed , rather easily with the help of this board.
I drive an 86 735, and my best advice is Buy the best example you can get , it will save you much more in the long run. Trust me on this one. I don't mean to scare you off or something , a properly maintaned e23 will serve you for many many years to come.
When you test drive one , make sure the engine is smooth when revved and the transmission doesn't jerk/shudder. Also , take your time and test ALL the buttons and all the functions. For the windows for example , make sure the windows roll down COMPLETELY then roll back up completely on their own ! I can't tell you how many cars i checked where a window got stuck in the bottom when it seemed running perfect.
Naturally , check for rust. The sunroof panel is a weak area for rust if the car has one.
In the end , you will not be disappointed with an e23. And with a board like this one, owning one is more affordable than you think.
Good luck , i hope this helps. Any more questions please do not hesitate to ask.
