Is there a preferred method of cleaning the injectors? Are they easy to remove/replace? Symptoms include poor acceleration/hesitation and occasional stumbling and backfiring through the intake. Any help would be appreciated.

add a can of injector cleaner every time you fill the gas tank. There are cleaning services but you have to remove the injector and send it to a shop. They are easy to remove. Have to remove everything around the fuel rail then remove the fuel rail. There is clips that hold the injectors to the fuel rail. Remove the clips and pull the injector out of the rail.

Find a mechanics stetascope and with the engine running listen to each of the injectors. There should be constant clicking noise on each of injectors when they are activated by the ECM.

I would suggest that you check all the other items that could cause backfiring, etc. Plugs, wires, rotor, distributor cap. Are all your sensor plugs clean and tight. Backfiring usually means ignition problems. Hesitiation could be fuel related. But it could also be sensor related, i.e. air flow box, coolant sensor, O2 feedback, cold start injector.
