The only time I have seen backfiring through the intake on the injected cars is when the valves are adjusted too tight. This can happen for several reasons, but that is where I would start to look. As far as injectors go, Techron is the only cleaner I have had do any good, but it doesn't always have an effect. Bad injectors can leak either internally, resulting in a gas smell and rough running when started, or externally, meaning leaking gas and the consequent odor in the engine compartment.
