I see you have an 85 and an 84. The trip computer changed in 85 to a newer style. Does the 84 front cover come off some how to adjust a pot?

The OBC II MPG reading is reset simply by pressing the reset button. You don't need to unhook anything or disconnect the power. The OBC is fully adjustable and is not very accurate. To adjust it, remove the small cover on the lower left that looks like it has a pin hole in it. Behind this cover is a pot that you can fiddle with to get more accurate readings. It takes a long time (highway driving) to get it to read correctly. Turn it only a little bit at a time.
