First off-super reliable. My eighties bmw passion grew out of my 87 325is. 210,000 miles and no major problems. I get around 24 mpg, but that is low because of the camber I have on the rear wheels, as the toe and camber are connected. I have yet to change the clutch plate! I am about to need to go and replace some of the seals in the engine. some of the sensors are bad as I check all of those things regularly anyway, as it is now a track event car.

Now, which one?
E's are okay, but older, have the big ugly bumpers, and low power, not a BMW engine.
318's are nice, but 10 second 0-60 is not awe inspiring.
87-88.5 325is is a nice car, has the front and rear spoilers, the three spoke sport wheel, and recaro seats (Super comfy).
But: has aluminum bumpers, and standard suspension.
88.5-89 has new bumper style, and an M tuned suspension. (basically just lower.)My thought for best bet.
90 has a four spoke steering wheel with airbag. The aesthetics may be worth the safety, or may not. If you plan on tracking the car I would say not.
91 wasn't there, returned in '92?

You'll recognize everything, don't get one with a front end shimmy-as these cars generally don't have this problem, and something is wrong verse worn out.
