first drain and replace the fluid. check if you have LSD Limited Slip Differential. recommend Redline products. LSD uses a slightly different formulation.
Also check your wheel bearings. If you still have the whine and cannot live with it, you'll have to R&R the differential. It's not hard to do, but may take half a day, maybe more.

You might even find a ratio that is a little higher numerically - that would increase your rpms in any gear at any time, but it helps your engine rev up faster. Means a little quicker and responsive car - might lose a 1/2 mpg, though.
