Paint prep tools... file boards, and orbital sanders require a ton of CFM delivery. You need a big tank... a 13 gal tank may work for contractor tools, like nail guns, but it won't hold the reserve of air needed for sanding tools while the compressor catches up. A dual piston 14 inch file board needs about 10-11 CFM at 90 PSI, if I recall. Look at the CFM and PSI requirements of the tools you want to use before spending a dime. They are all stated requirements of the tools. Then, look for the compressor that delivers the highest required tool stats for the time you want to use it between having to shut down and wait for PSI to build up. It will drive you crazy to have a tool not function because there is not enough air going through it.Ideal would be a beltdriven, 5 HP, with 50 or bigger gallon tank. Don't worry about the temp. It will get plenty warm while it's compressing air for you.
