It's the same engine.

>2. What should I look at when I buy the used engine?

Repair history, but good luck. buy it with some sort of guarantee. Outside looks are no indication of what's inside. i bought a junkyard dog motor for $1200 for my 325i. It looked terrible, and the valve train looked like the oil had been changed maybe once. But I was in a hurry, so it went in as is. Been in there since March 1, and I've put 20,000 miles and two dricing schools. Still going strong. i also had a Mazda engine years ago that was all painted and shiny, and looked great. within 2K it needed major work.

Get a long block, meaning lower end and head. Re-use your old stuff. Replace all belts, water pump, and front and rear oil seals.

>3. What will it be the reasonable cost for the replacement?

Anywhere from $500 - 1200.
