Hell, right here in Chicago I know of a 85 735 and a 85 535 at bone yards. Toss you some tools in a bucket and head on over for an afternoon of fun and wrenches.
Seriously, if you had a decent manual and a friend that's done _any_ mechanical work at all, you can probably slap a new head on yourself. At the very least, if you can find a decent used head you could drastically reduce the cost of what your mechanic will charge. And I seriously doubt that there is piston damage.
I don't know how much you paid, but trying to sell it while admitting to knowing it's got a problem is not going to be easy - and your other choice means incurring horrible karma trying to sell without disclosing the problem.
You will probably lose more selling it as broken than it will cost to fix it with a used head...

I took it to 2 mechanics, they both basically said it needs a new rocker arm and valve work, possibly a new cylinder head, but won't know until the head is pulled and they can see inside- could be cylinder or piston damage, but they don't think so. There are other minor problems, but I have absolutely no doubt it can be made 100% rather easily by a knowledgable owner (something I am not).
