is it possible to rebuild the P/S pump at home? (archive)

Mine engine bay has always had an odd high pitched whine/grinding noise, and when I ran out or P/S fluid for a few minutes, the noise got louder....so after a few months (I didnt pay much attention to the noise) I put 2 and 2 together and decided that it was the P/S pump making that horrible noise and since its slowly leaking, I wanna reabuild it and not have to spend 300 for a rebuilt one, if at all possible.
