Oops :-) bad case of premature posting

So I have the instrument cluster apart to try Nick's solution to my metronoming gauges and discovered the Varta NiCads. One measures 1.24, one measures .26. Should I replace them and with what? I have some 1.5V NiMh AA cells, is that a good idea?

Kevin,
I replaced the old board with a new batteryless board from Programa over a year ago.
No more batteries to replace and things seem to work better.
I would give you Programas' url if I could find it again, I believe it's some where on this msg. boards archives. They are located in Boca Raton, FL., can't find the phone number either.
