The one your talking about with the exclamation mark is for brake hydraulic faults. The parking brake should have a similar symbol with a P in the center.

As it happens, Darius is talking about the transmission fault indicator which looks like a gear (cogwheel?) with an exclamation mark in the center on U.S. cars. On the Euro's it's a gear with an A (for auto trans) in the center.
