Had both front refurbished in Sept2001. I have had no problems. BMW has a refurbish kits to do this work, the following numbers for front 34 11 1 158 692 and rear 34 21 1 153 194, should be correct, but double-check.
If you have a problem, it will likely be immediately evident.
