The ignition key did not kick the starter motor so I sourcesd the way to start it through the diagnostic plug. I turned the key to start. Got into the engine bay and put a wire from pin 11 to the battery with a push button switch in the middle. When depressing the button the starter motor cranked until it started.

I drove my 85 745i for the first time. I drove home until I can figure out why the ignition key will not kick the starter motor. Maybe needs a new key cylinder or some wire connection on the back.

Turbo boost does not kick in. Is there any connection between the tranny and turbo boost? The car has been locked in safety mode so it runs only in 3rd gear. When driving it longer than 15 minutes the timp slowly climbs up and overheats.

Any one have an idea where to look for the short that keeps the tranny in 3rd. A mechanic put a used tranny in but after the swap it never ran but in 3rd and started to slowly overheat.

PO's gave up on the car and was eager to get it out of their lives after having one of those dump a ton of money into BMW nightmares.

I'll be aking more questions when I get going.

PS I still have my brothers 84 745i here too. I was driving it for a week to decide if I wanted to pay what he was asking and the turbo went out I guess. I need to take off the connector tube on the intake line and spin it to tell if that is the problem for sure.

Thanks for your time, attention and help.
Craig
