I just got finished completely rebuilding mine. You just have to have a nice well lit area and a little patience. The problems I encountered were a bad relay, the one that actually switches the ground to the vac. solenoid valves, bad micro-switch (available at Radio Shack)and a few cracked solder joints. Other than that a little cleanup and back in the car. Works perfect now.

You got me back into my 82 733. I was so excited when it started, I decided to tackle the malfunctioning and "dread" thumbwheel/HVAC controls...

I attempted this once before on another 733, and I got so frustrated, I called the salvage yard and had them come and tow the car away. I made an appointment with them so that on the day the car went into the crusher, I could be there to witness it's demise. It was not a pretty sight, with me jumping up and down, clapping my hands and chortling gleefully as the sheet metal and glass screamed out in pain at the crusching forces rending it into a 3 foot cube of steel and aluminum.

I had also forgotten how much fun it was to pull the temp/HVAC/OBC unit out of the center of the dash, dragging literally yards of wiring along with it, and ripping them off the back of the unit and just stuffing them back into the gaping maw left in the dash. Just for fun, I turned the key and the car started, so I can obviously still drive it that way, but taking it on a date is now out of the question. Pretty ladies do not pay avid attention to my quick wit and attempts to lure them home, when there are sparks coming from the center of the dash, lighting up the inside of the car, while I pursue my wiley endeavors.

I had also forgotten what it is like to open the control units and have to shield your face and eyes from springs and ball bearings.

In any event, I live in a resort condo, 20 minutes from the best skiing on the West Coast (Hell! In the US). The views are wonderful, as is the bright sunlight sparking off the snow fields.

The reason I mention my abode, is to see if I can lure somebody (not a pretty woman, necessarily) out here to Beautiful Oregon, to help me put this Friggin' Thing back together.... hopefully in working order...

Anyone???
