Well, I got this '87 325i recently and popped open to valve cover to do a little adjustment - guess what I found inside? broken head bolt... fortunately no damage and the top of the bolt was readily available nearby

Everything seems okay for the moment and I planned to swap the bolts anyway but what a fun way to start the new car

Anyone pulled a broken bolt successfully? I heard e23's had this problem too? Should I just dive in and do a valve job at 150k - I dont' think it blew the gasket but at least one of the cam lobes looks worn enough to pull the head and replace head and/or camshaft.

So I had to pull out the '85 Honda CRX with 315,000 miles on it today to pick up the slack :(
