You're a real life saver.

That's *definitely* my configuration with the relay bracket diode, as well. Can even see the little silver band you refer to, and that end is definitely on the side that goes into the same terminal as the green/white wire. Super!

Is your diode pretty small, too, like the remnant of the one in the figure I sent? What's the length (excluding the wire), approximately?

Didn't expect you to dive into your parts car for me, but sure do appreciate your effort to help resolve this challenge.

Hope I can repay you in kind one of these days.
