Is your diode pretty small, too, like the remnant of the one in the figure I sent? What's the length (excluding the wire), approximately?

The body of the diode is probably about 1/4 inch long, diameter the size of the piece you have left. Clip that off and take it to Radio Shack and you shouldn't have much problem matching it, the part of the number I can see is 4002.

Didn't expect you to dive into your parts car for me, but sure do appreciate your effort to help resolve this challenge.

Well it became a quest dammmmit :-) Actually needed to yank that stuff out and see what is salvageable anyhow eventually!
