Rick,
The speakers are indeed round. They are 6-1/2"
diameter triaxials and were moderately difficult
to install. I did this last year, so my memory may fail me, but here goes...
The fronts were the easier of the speakers to
fit. Watch the depth- I think there's only 2-1/2
inches to play with. I put the entire speaker behind
the kick panel. I did this so an errant foot wouldn't
kick in the flimsy wire mesh stock grilles. I had
to use a brown 1/2" thick pegboard like material
(I got it at home depot) just behind the kick panel
to act as a spacer, since the tweeter and mids
are 1/2" higher than the speaker mount surface.
I chose this material because it jigsaws well.
Then I cut all the stock speaker mounting webbing
off the backside of the panel, to make a smooth
mounting surface. Next I found a matching spade
drill bit (use a spade, not a spiral twist bit)
that matched the size of the other holes in the
kick panel, and drilled enough holes to cover the
speaker area, matching the pattern of the existing
holes already in the kick panel. Lastly I took a
trip to the local fabric store, got a match for
the interior color, and put this as a speaker
cloth between the kick panel and speaker. It looks
factry as all hell.
To mount the right side speaker, you will have
to move the engine computer a little higher
than stock. The holes are there, you just have to
pry the bottom screw nuts out and put them in the
higher, empty holes in the sheet metal. My engine
functions well, easing my worries that a the heavy
speaker magnetlocated so close to the computer might
affect it somehow.
The rear speaker installtion is trickier, and I
mounted everything on the rear shelf. On the
rear shelf, I have two 6-1/2 and one eight inch
subwoofer, which blows through the carpet, and is
not visible from above.Let me know if you wish for
that information as well.
