Cheers! Glad you're having a good time! LOL
I just got through replacing the pads (front and rear) on Kate's '85 735i, and although I didn't bleed the brakes, it looked like there were two bleed valves (inner and outer) on each of the front fixed calipers. They were on the top. The rears had one bleed valve each, on the inner part of the sliding caliper.
Hey, aren't these bimmers great to work on? Everything is so well built and so precise in alignment -- just great for a home mechanic.
One thing I did notice. I let the brakes go too long on the front. The pad thickness measured about 11 mm each. The specs are 0.908" (~23mm). I think that's what tore the dust caps apart. Will have to rebuild the calipers, probably, at the next brake change (or before, if I get some extra time). The rear pads were slightly above specs at 9mm thickness; spec is 0.315" (~8mm).
Now I've ordered pads for our son's '85 745i, and I'm going to take his front pads out tonight and inspect the calipers and rotors .
Don't know why your's don't have bleed valves like Kate's. Maybe someone else can give an explanation.
Have a good one, Rick
