On two of your points, I have no doubt the guy left you in your tracks, since his 6 series is considerably lighter than your 7 series. In addition, most engines are fastest just before they blow, what with all that increased tolerance from wear.

Again, we probably can't appreciate what the engine supply must be like where you are, but I'd be seeing some compression numbers, cause it sounds like a real basket case motor.
