Re: Third brake light... (archive)

The 85 745i I bought in Phoenix a few years ago had one installed on the rear deck, it's not too ugly and serves it's purpose. It is not the LED variety, just uses a regular bulb and lens.

I may have uploaded some pictures to the gallery, and I may not have, but I tried. If they make it the are called "3rd Brake Light" and "3rd Light inside". I will watch for them and post the link if they show up.

I am thinking that the LED style might look out of place on our vintage of cars, but then I would have to see one to really decide.

Actually, there are several candidates on the market... and a design that I have been working in my head...

The most easily adaptable LED 3rd-light I sits atop the new GM Suburbans.. It is a low profile, surface mount that would be visually unobtrusive to the exterior lines of the car, yet fully functional...

The next comes from the motorcycle workd and consists of 2 units each with 6 high intensity LED. They come in continious flashing or flashing for 5 seconds after initial application, then steady....

The "home built" variety consists of a row of LED which are far far far brighter than any of the above, the only challenge is to design an inconspicious mount...
