And after trying a hour and a half oil change I want to know if the oil casing is supposed to come out to get the new filter in there or do you kind of just add the filter while is is just hanging in there.
Also I got hardly any oil at all from the bleed valve. I thought I woul get as much as the casing holds, maybe half to 2/3rds a quart but no where near that much.

I bought my 745 in 1994 w/156,000 miles on the clock and immediately switched to M1. Been runnin' synthetics ever since.... Never had a drop of oil on the floor.. (well, ok, I did spill some once...)
Anyway... from my experience of running various synthetics for about 25 years..... (yes, I have a few gray hairs...) the formulation of the various products has improved drastically... I did put a (un-named) oil im my 78 Wagonneer when it had 8,00 miles, and it leaked badly from that point forward... I always needed a drip pan, and wiped it out frequently...
I can say, that I have put synthetics in 3 high mileage BMWs (533 226,000, 735 178,000 and 745 156,000 now w/ 230+) and have NEVER had them develop leaking seals... period.
IMHO, swap it out, and drive with peace of mind.
Now auto-trannys are different critters... If the ATF oil is of un-known age, start by exchanging 1 qt every 30 days for 6 months, then do a full swap including a new filter and using a low volume, low pressure air source, blow th eoil out of th etranny cooler circuit........... this gradual swap out will gradually clean the internals and valving.
