In my experience I hove not seen an undamaged board yet.
Dead recharchable batteries will normally go alongside with bad solderjoint, or if left for longer with interupted and badly damaged coppertracks on the circuit board. When the copper tracks look real dark than they are possibly already seperated from the board material and it is a matter of time only until they burn trough.
As the contacts on the board degrade, the resistance of these contacts and tracks increases, leading to more heat on the board and the voltage/power of even new batteries being used up and converted to heat, the components still don't get enough power.
If you need a new board your best bet is Europarts in the UK.
Although the board comes from Florida it costs $100 more to buy it in the Staates.
Somehow they have to support a lot of middleman and expect to make more profit from their own countrymen than from the poor English.
So buy in England, it's a lot cheaper.
The BMW "Mobile Tradition" replacement board is about $220 in Europe and is a new development.
Better cables and so on.
I am at the moment checking the possibility of a bypass to the SI board.
Best Regards
Ralf
