Lithium Ion batteries ARE rechargeable (archive)

I had a board in my hand this afternoon which came out of an '85 735, but I think it was replaced before, since it was very different.
For a start it did not use NiCads but Lithium/Ions which are a lot shorter and I believe are not rechargeable at all, but have a life expectency of about 5years.
Another major difference is that the board is not raisen enforced papercard but it is Fibergals based. So it's kind of see through(not real) green instead of the dark brown.
It also is multi layer rather than single layer.
By having copper circuitery on both side the distance and width of the tracks to each other was increased, which possibly solves the problem of the old board and burnt through tracks.
The lithium batteries were dead, but there was no damage whatsoever to any of the tracks nor to the joints.
So I guess it is better to order an SI board from BMW Germany and pay the �220 than having a repaired old board from Florida for the same money.
