Thanks,

A very common topic of discussion, mostly because it is a big pain. A lot of special tools are out there, but usually they mean turning the bolt 1\8 inch at a time. What I did (not done yet) is buy a second 17 MM 3\8 inch socket, and cut off the front except for the depth of the head of the bolt. The socket was still too long. One guy cut the side of the socket off, to break the bolt free, but then he had to do the 1\8 inch bit. What I did was cut 1\8 inch off of the back of the socket, and then used a 3\8 to 1\4 (downsize adapter to clear the starter. Then I used a 1\4 universal, and a step up 1\4 to 3\8 adapter to get the extra torque on the bolt. The not done part is that I have to get the 3\8 to 1\4 welded to my butchered socket. There is far too much slop to get it on the bolt. There is still room for error, like backing the top bolt out too far before starting the bottom bolt, so take care, and good luck.
