I'm having the same trouble with my 733i '79 model. how do i get into the guts of it and figure out exactly whats wrong?? can someone please help us out??

Having searched the archives with no adequate results, I have to ask the question. So... how do I get the sunroof out to troubleshoot and repair it and it's associated cables when I can only open it to the vent position? I'm sorry because I'm sure it's been covered ad nauseaum, but I can't find the info! I found a description that requires the sunroof to be half-opened, but that is not practicable here.

PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: My sunroof will not operate at all electrically: the switch works and I can hear the relay in the trunk cycling (the motor is in the trunk! Thanks list!). Using the handcrank I can open to the vent position but cannot retract it under the roof. The rear of the panel drops but then all movement stops. Also, the driver's side does not respond as well: the sunroof opens with the driver's side definitely lower than the passenger side. I'm assuming that due to non-use and high moisture the cables have rusted in place and possibly broken.

TIA for any and all help.
