I have had a hard time finding the WR8's in common shops but they all say the Platinums are recommended for the 84 733i. Anybody have feedback on this. Are they an improvement from original stock? If so, why are they almost a $1.50 cheaper at $2.00/per?
I bought them and gapped them but wanted to take a poll here before I put them in.

Also, a BMW friend told me last fall that contrary to my better judgment, he suggest I up the oil weight to 10w40 from 10w30 to improve compression. I did so and over the winter had some idle problems and sluggishness that I thought was due to oil but it got better with a valve job. I have gone through two oil changes with the 40 weight and don't notice much difference.....anyone have theories.

P.S. I am tearing apart the dash tomorrow in hopes of fixing the water-on-the-floor problem we all seem to be having. We had a stretch of heat (not much rain)in Chicago and the problem corresponded to that weather. One difference I have is that my A/C compressor is disconnected but the system still has charge so I am wondering if the evaporator could still be the culprit. I think I pulled something out when I was in there recently.
