You can do it any time. The switch is there for use. No harm done at any circumstances! If there would be limitations that switch would not be there. It would be more complicated in order to use that function to avoid law suits, etc...

The "S"-mode is for your fun. It immediately takes the gear down from 4th to third and changes the program set up to allows max revs on third gear (first and second also) The "E" position is "economy", so it will not give max revs on any gear before switching to higher gear.

In normal 745i the fastest gear is the third, not fourth. There is one situation when you should not do it: Assuming that you have a chip and waste gate upgrade. You drive e.g. at 280 km/h and then switch to "S" you will be over the rev limit and the engine will go dead.


I was told by the fellow that I got the car from not to switch while moveing, is this right or not.thanks.........
