: About 2 yrs. ago my parents' 633 CSI overheated, started running rough, and had it towed home. The gas and oil did indeed mix. The oil was immediately changed and it has been sitting since. Is there any hope for engine? If the head cracked can it be repaired?
These engines are built like tanks! They take
a large amount of abuse before suffering serious
failures. I did exactly what you describe to my
car about a year ago and when I took the head in
to a very reputable machine shop that specialized
in German autos, I was told by the owner of the
shop that he has rarely seen one of these big 6
engine heads crack... Sure enough, after he checked
it for cracks, it came through with none. Shaving
off a few thousandths of an inch from the head
made it flat again. I also checked the cylinder
bores while I had the head off and found the
original machining marks still on the cylinder
walls after 235,000 miles!
My advice would be to take the head off and have
it checked for cracks but I doubt you'll find any.
