Rear Speaker replacement advice/exp... (archive)

I had the interior out this past weekend and I noticed that my rear speaker covers were pulling away from their metal housings. I pulled the rubber off the metal and was amazed at the rust; no wonder I couldn't unscrew the whole cover at first. Anyway, after checking out the situation, I was thinking about modifying the metal housing so that a speaker unit could fit in the empty space - rather than just on the far side. Has anybody made a modification like this? I'm aware of the 645 webpage speaker mods but I think they're a little different.
