gas fumes in car (archive)

I have an '84 633csi which has run well until recently. There is a strong gasoline smell in and around the car when it is running. I've checked all the lines and cannot find a leak anywhere. It seems to get stronger with the heater on but I am guessing it is just due to the fan. The car still seems to run ok, but does hesitate a little when I am getting on it. Could it be the fuel pressure regulators? Help!!
