: Where do you go about getting insurance for a GRAY MARKET m6? Nobody in my town will give me collision/comp for less than $1100/yr! (not incl. liability!!!) PLUS there is a $1000 deductible. F THAT!

A number of my friends have found the same situation. One threatened to cancel his policy after being told he'd bought a gray market car (Though not yet registered it!). They said gray market cars were dangerous death traps that colapse and explode in accidents (poor bumpers and no side guard beams). In addition the insurance companies have been told that the companies (MBNA, BMWNA) will NOT supply these cars with parts, so the insurance companies are afraid of horrible collision repair bills.

While most of this is crap, try telling an insurance co. that just wants to take your money and cancel if you ever use it, anyway.

One exception is USAA They just take military officers and retired officers, and their kids, but they didn't flinch at insuring my Alpina. They just consider it a gray market BMW. I fully expect to have to whine if it ever gets crunched, as they will probably not want to pay what it's worth.

They also let me reduce or delete coverage whenever (like during the winter) I don't drive my "toy" cars.
