: i have the chance to buy a 1988 M6 with 126,000 miles
: it needs a driveshaft,catalytic converter,and possibly some transmission work.....it shifts very hard .......
: i am driving a 1986 635csi automatic right now and wonder if its worth trading up..............does anyone have any suggestions?............thanks

It really depends on what your driving style is and what your needs/wants are for a vehicle. I drive an 85 635csi, and have owned an 88 M5, 86 635csi with motorsport interior, and several other nice BMW's. I personally feel the M series are great cars, but not reasonable for everyday driving, unless or course you have the funds to keep them maintained. The standard six with a five speed, chip and other common upgrades fits the bill for me. You just have to weigh the cost to play with the satisfation derived.
