: : I have a non functioning head rest (no movement, but the motor works). I found a fix on the E24 FAQ site, but I haven't figured out the trick to remove the seat back. I have a 85 635 w/ electronic black leather Recardos. Thanks for any tips.

: I had the same problem with my '84 633csi. I never could get the seat back off either, so I set the headrest motor at its lowest position and then manually pushed the headrest down to its lowest position. This probably wasn't the best way to do things but the headrest now functions great and I haven't had a problem with it since.

1.Take off two screws at bottom of seatback.

2.Pull plastic handles on both seat sides straight off. Stick magnetic phillips screwdriver in one slot, unscrew springloaded lift mechanism, remove and slip slot over lift on opposite side. Seatback will come off then without damage.
